The problem

What it replaces

Print and packaging shops run on paper job cards. A job’s specification changes at the counter and the press floor never hears about it, nobody knows which stage a job is at without walking the floor, and when a job is late there is no record of who changed what.

This system replaces the paper job card. Each job carries its full specification, line items and purchase order, moves through the production stages, is broken into assigned tasks with deadlines, and prints as an A4 job card — while every edit is recorded field by field.

Architecture

How the pieces fit together

Small and dependable: one Node service serves the API and the web app on a single port, with sessions and job history in PostgreSQL.

The audit trail is written by the same request that saves the job, so the history cannot fall out of step with the job itself.
